Mecklenburg Vorpommern Autofahrer Kollidiert Auf Der A24 Bei Parchim Mit Wolf

A Wolf on the Loose: Car Collides with Animal on German Autobahn

Authorities Issue Warning After Incident on A24 Near Parchim

Authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are warning drivers to be cautious after a car collided with a wolf on the A24 Autobahn near Parchim.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at around 8:30 p.m. when a 52-year-old driver struck the animal, which was crossing the road.

No Injuries Reported, but Damage to Car

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the car sustained some damage. The wolf, however, did not survive the impact.

Police closed the Autobahn for a short time to clear the scene and remove the animal's body. The incident is still under investigation.

Increased Wolf Sightings in the Area

The wolf population in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been growing in recent years, and sightings have become more frequent. In 2022, there were over 1,000 reported wolf sightings in the state.

Experts believe that the increase in sightings is due to the expansion of the wolf's habitat and the availability of food. Wolves are known to prey on deer, wild boar, and other animals.

Caution Urged for Drivers

Drivers are urged to be cautious when driving in areas where wolves are known to be present. Wolves are typically shy animals, but they may approach roads if they are hungry or feel threatened.

If you see a wolf on the road, slow down and give the animal plenty of space. Do not approach the animal or try to feed it.

Steps to Take if You Encounter a Wolf

If you encounter a wolf in the wild, follow these steps:

  • Remain calm and do not make any sudden movements.
  • Back away slowly, giving the wolf plenty of space.
  • Do not run or turn your back on the wolf.
  • Make yourself look as large as possible by raising your arms and waving them.
  • If the wolf approaches you, make loud noises and throw rocks or sticks at it.

By following these steps, you can reduce the risk of a wolf attack.
