Swedish Foreign Minister With Term Marked By Nato Accession Resigns

Swedish foreign minister Ann Linde resigns

Ann Linde, Sweden's foreign minister, announced on Monday that she would step down from her position on Aug. 18 after three years as head of the ministry.

Linde, a member of the Social Democratic Party, has held the post since 2019 and has been a key figure in Sweden's recent decision to join NATO.

Linde said in a statement she was proud of the work she had done as foreign minister, but felt it was time for a change.

"It has been a privilege to serve as foreign minister during such a turbulent time in the world," she said. "I am grateful for the trust that has been placed in me, and I am proud of what we have achieved together."

Sweden's Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson thanked Linde for her service.

"Ann Linde has been an outstanding foreign minister," Andersson said. "She has skillfully led Sweden's foreign policy through challenging times, and she has made a significant contribution to Sweden's security and prosperity."

Linde's resignation comes at a time of significant change for Sweden.

The country is in the process of joining NATO, and it is also facing challenges such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and the rise of China.

It is not yet clear who will replace Linde as foreign minister.
